COMMENTARY
As we speculated in our last newsletter two weeks ago, Jody Barrett has entered the race to replace Mark Green in the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently serving as a State House Representative in the Tennessee General Assembly, Jody Barrett has been able to establish an extremely conservative record.
As Williamson County is essentially divided in half by the U.S. Congress boundary line, most of Williamson County’s residents that live west of I-65 will be able to vote in this race. (See our map for boundary lines).
We expect the election date range for this Republican primary to be in September this fall. So, this campaign season will be short and intense. Jody’s main challengers at this point are probably Matt Van Epps and Lee Reeves but there is simply no matching the conservative credentials of Jody Barrett.
Now is a good time to review Our Values and focus on issues rather than identity politics as this campaign sprint gets under way. If history repeats itself, the establishment Republicans will put big money (much of which will come from out of state) and media connections behind the candidate they are propping up.
Let’s also keep an eye out for negative campaigning and fake controversies. These are all tell-tale signs of the Republican establishment at work. Let’s watch how this race unfolds.
For now, the main focus for conservatives should be consolidating support early around Jody Barrett and donating time and resources if possible.
Sincerely,
Your Citizens Team
